Anybody having any problems with Firefox 7?

It seems to be crashing a lot for no apparent reason. I downloaded it a few days ago.

1. It seemed very recently

That Firefox went from 3.6 to version 4. Versions 5, 6 and 7 seem to be unheralded, with not a lot known about bugs and disfunctions.

Version 4 was extremely buggy when first released. I generally wait a full 8 - 12 months before updating, giving me plenty of time to read of known bugs and disfunctions. By the time I get around to updating, we are on the sixth or seventh re-write and one can be fairly sure it's stable. I doubt I've seen any discussion and/or comparison of Versions 5 , 6 and 7.

I'm starting to believe that the Firefox developers have lost their way. I'd suggest turning off your auto updates, do a little reading before changing your version and make regular backups of your settings.

3. I'm with you on this. i try to avoid the bleeding edge.

I've found that everything works better if you stay at least one version behind.
I've had less hassles if you stick to the slightly older versions-especially if the new has a bunch of changes all at once.

4. Mate, I just want things to work

In the grand scheme, I couldn't give a flying fuck which version I'm using, as long as it does what I require. This goes for any program or OS.

Folk like you and I are quite capable of managing the security of our own machines and don't need to be forced into an unwanted update just because 'everyone' is updating.

What I'm finding, as programs evolve, is that they are less geared toward user efficiency and real-world productivity, and more towards us being directed down a path pre-determined by the program writers and developers.

Only the very extremely proficient use ALL the features of MS Office, Adobe Suite, Mozilla progs etc. I almost pee myself with delight when I see a mug user raving about the advantages of new features that they neither understand nor have a use for.

2. Working fine here

I've lost some extensions but that's not unusual after an upgrade. The extension developers will either catch up or I will find replacements.

5. I've been getting an occasional script error on exiting Firefox

Was just Googling that this morning, and it seems to be a common bug complaint. I think it has to do with the clearing of history/cookies, etc. Just a minor inconvenience at the moment.

6. What version did you upgrade from?

I upgraded from V4 and removed the few incompatible addons and haven't seen any problems yet.
If you go to Tools/Add-ons it will highlight those that are incompatible.

8. Version 6.

I generally upgrade after about a week or so it becomes available. I figure if there's a major screwup, that's enough time to catch it and kill it.

Other than that, I'm try to keep it upgraded in case there's some security issue.

7. I upgraded to 7.0.1 and am not very pleased, so far

I've noticed several pages (such as pages on LifeHacker) will put the entire window into the dreaded "Not Responding" state... it usually comes back after a few minutes. I had to hack the XML files of several add-ons to allow them to start up in FF 7. I don't see any gains from upgrade this release. In other words, It's not faster or more accurate in rendering pages to standards (because those points are all that matters).

I've been using this add-on since ver 3.6.4 & I haven't come across an add-on yet that was *actually* incompatible thru ver 7...7 seem to have *fixed* the memory leak issue, at least as far as I've observed.

I haven't been downloading the latest thing for a long time because I like my addons to work.

11. Yes! I came here to post a question....

One consistent, annoying problem I'm having is that when I click links within emails, the links don't work in Firefox.

However, when I access the same email and click the same links in IE, it works fine.

Plus, graphics don't display in Firefox on many sites, whereas they display fine in IE.

13. Make sure Firefox is set as your default browser

Here's how to do that:

1. Open Firefox

2. Select Tools from the menu

3. Select Options…

4. Click Advanced

5. Click the Check Now button

6. Click Yes if the default browser is not set.

7. Click OK.
