Firefox help
Recently I finally decided to update my Firefox from version 3.6.something. I downloaded and installed version 6.0.something, but when it tried to run, it couldn't start. I forget exactly what the error message said but it wasn't the failure that commonly happens when one webpage crashes it. It doesn't even get to the point of trying to load pages.

After trying repeatedly to run it and getting the same error message every time. I decided to uninstall it. I couldn't find the old 3.6 version install file on my computer but I found a version 5.0 and installed it. I don't like it but it runs. However, every time that I shut it down, the next time it starts, it says "installing your updates," installs 6.0 again, and gives the "error--Firefox can't start" message.

I'm now in the situation that every single time I start Firefox, I have to uninstall version 6 and reinstall version 5. I can't find any option anywhere to make it stop doing automatic updates.

Any ideas or suggestions? If it matters, I'm using a very old computer running Windows XP-Pro.

1. uninstall, reinstall 6.0.2 and then disable Automatic Updates this way:
Edited on Tue Sep-20-11 12:45 PM by steve2470
1- Click Tools
2- Click Options
3- Click Advanced icon
4- Click Update tab
5- UNCHECK all the boxes for Automatic Update
6- Click OK at the bottom
7- Close the brower completely to save your settings
8- Now restart the browser and you should be OK

Just to be really thorough with your uninstall, I would use Revo Uninstaller but it's optional.

Go here to download Firefox 6.0.2

Go here for Revo Uninstaller free edition.
