1. You should be able to simply
Right-Click > Delete or whatever the same process is for MAC.

That will send it to your Recycle Bin/Trash folder where it will (usually) remain until you empty the contents of your Recycle Bin/Trash.

As long as the file is just a file and not some executable system program, there's no harm in deleting a file off your desktop.

Hmm. Well, that's different. Are you talking about Temporary Internet Files or the files that sit in there in your Recent Documents?

If you want to delete Recent Documents, you can right-click your Taskbar, click Properties, then Start Menu and clear those from there.

If it's Temporary Internet Files and you use IE, you can right-click the IE icon, choose Internet Options from the drop-down list and clear the files from there.

4. You can create a folder and rename it ' temporary files'
You can park files there for deletion whenever you want. If you want to create a temporary file...what kind of file? .txt,.doc, etc?

5. First point, Frosty1...
Depending on your operating system, there are a number of locations for storage of temporary files; in the system folder, prefetch folder, in Documents and settings, in program folders. There is no individual icon that will delete all of these.

A better approach may be to install CCleaner and place an icon to it on your desktop so that you can run it every few days to clean up the disc.

6. Are you just trying to Delete the Files in the temp folder?
Right-click the Desktop...
New...
Shortcut
cmd.exe /C "DEL /Q %TEMP%"

Name the shortcut: "Delete Temp"
Finish

A Double-click will delete all the files in the location defined by the environment variable "TEMP".
