Lost my wireless
I have an old hand-me-down Gateway laptop. Until this past Monday, the wireless was working just fine. I hadn't done anything to it or to the router during the previous time I used it. It sees my wireless network, but won't connect. I CAN connect to the internet if I connect the router to the LAN with a wire. I tried to update the driver on the wireless card, but it says no new driver is available. Also made sure the Power Management box was unchecked while I was there. I tried "repair" more times than I can count. I removed any spyware I could find (in safe mode). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless card. It says the card is working properly. I have tried connecting with the firewall off and, the router security turned off with no luck. I tried pinging the router, but got a "destination net unreachable" message. I also deleted the old wireless set-up, and set it up again.

I am about ready to pull out my hair. Is there something else I can try, or is my wireless card malfunctioning? I don't have another wireless device with which to connect to my router, but I don't think the router is the problem. It's only a month old.

3. The first thing to figure out is whether the wireless problem is inside or outside of the laptop
Can you get somebody else with a wireless device to try connecting to your network?

Can you carry the laptop to some wifi hotspot and see if you can connect there?

Much as I hate to suggest it, a lot of McD's offer wifi access; you could buy yourself a cheeseburger and a coke to go (so you aren't tempted to spill everything on your keyboard), then sit down for a few minutes and try to connect; check locations here: http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/services/free_wifi.html

You can probably find other options in your community by websearch if you think about it: local bars/cafes and so on

4. Are you using Vista or 7?
There was a problem with it using IP6 instead of IP4 on pinging and deciding it wasn't going to communicate even though it showed a strong connection.
