How long should a laptop hold a charge?
Approximately? Mine usually lasts only about 2 hours at most. Is that normal? BTW laptop and charger is only about 8 months old. If I need a new charger, would it be considered 'hardware'? (I have a warranty w/Dell)

Thanks in advance! :hi:

1. depends on the battery
My daughter and I both have Toshibas. Her battery lasts about 2 hours, mine lasts more like 5 or 6. I have a much bigger battery.

2. also depends on what you do while on battery
energy settings matter
and more intensive applications will drain the battery faster

3. Two hours is about average for a standard battery with wifi on and normal use.

4. Probably another dumb question but
can I get a new larger capacity battery anywhere (such as Best Buy or Radio Shack) or does it have to be specific to the brand? Are they expensive?

Thanks hobbit, struggle4 and lazarus!

5. I wouldn't get it at Best Buy
They're way too expensive. It doesn't have to be branded as long as it works with your model. They're not the cheapest things around, expect to pay at least $50 and up depending on the size and make. I found a high capacity one on the internet for an HP that was about 60% of what HP wanted for a regular one. 3 years later it's still holding charge just fine.

6. Ouch! I guess I'll make due with what I've got.
It's not important enough an issue for me to drop $50+ right now. Thanks Hobbit! :hi:
