Is the Firefox "NoScript" add-on safe or not?
Their home page looks very creepy to me, and surfing the web I find a lot of people talking about possible vulnerabilities.

Is anyone here knowledgeable about this?

Thanks.

1. I've been using it for years
I agree the homepage is very amateur looking but the addon works like a dream. It puts a little icon in your taskbar or menu bar and by default, stops most scripts and Flash thingies. If you want blocked stuff to work, you just right-click the icon and give permission.

3. I find it very useful.

If you install it you'll be fine tuning it for a couple of weeks to allow or deny websites.

It comes with a default list of sites IIRC but you will add to it as time goes by.

6. Thanks for your input.
I like it. The only brief trouble I had was that, on a couple of websites, it took a couple of tries to figure out which scripts to allow to, say, play a video.

But overall, it's been great.

4. If you don't like NoScript, you can search for other options to turn off JavaScript
in webpages

Opera may be the most convenient and customizable browser I've found for that purpose: it allows you to turn JavaScript on/off by a checkbox in the chrome, affecting only the current tab, whereas most browsers require you to wander off to preferences and set JavaScript on/off there globally

The common view seems to be that allowing JavaScript itself makes one vulnerable on the web and that might therefore want to disallow it in general. I'm not competent to discuss security issues associated with NoScript. If you have links that you think we should consider, many of us would be grateful to see them

7. Thanks.
I'm using NoScript now, and I like the way it has worked so far. I don't remember which pages I was looking at exactly, but if you google "NoScript" and "security," you will probably see some of the discussions that were concerning me.

The amateur look of their homepage was a little off-putting at first.
