Kindle or Nook? Can either work without ATT?
I really don't like reviews that say they both use AT & T so I'm wondering what people think of their systems and is it possible to use these without having an ATT connection. I use a regional ISP at home.

Don't know really anything about wireless so I'm kinda dumb about this. Thanks!

1. Well yes the new Kindle uses ATT
and i think the nook does. But really, you are only downloading very small amounts of data. Not like your calling someone on your e-book.

2. I just got a nook
you can set it up to use any wireless network just like a laptop does. It will connect to 3g, no cost, but I leave the wireless off unless I need it to save the battery.

3. there's no contract
So you don't have to sign anything with ATT. The downloading part is a free service.

I have a Kindle, and have had no issues with downloads. They're fast and easy.

I chose the Kindle over the Nook for a few reasons. First, I didn't like the touchscreen the Nook uses. It just didn't work for me well when I tried it out, plus it drains the battery. The Kindle has a longer battery life. The Kindle turns pages a little bit faster.

And the last one is the seemingly least significant, but most important, I think. The way I naturally hold an e-book, the Kindle's "next page" button is right where my thumb goes. On the Nook, my thumb is on the "last page" button, and I'd have to shift my hand up to press "next page". I just figured that would become very annoying while reading.

Oh, and the Kindle is on its second gen, while the Nook is first gen. I try to avoid first gen technology.

On the plus side for the Nook, it can do wireless if you're in an area with no cell towers. Some people like the touchscreen. And B&N has more free books available than Amazon does, as well as more books overall. I've only found a few things I want that aren't available (Harry Potter, Steve Brust's back catalog) on the Kindle, though.
