I've just started using The Mozilla Firefox browser, but fnd that when I want to
exit a site, all my other tabs have to go too! So I have to open Firefox again. I can't believe this is how it should work. Can some kind soul tell me what needs to be done to get it working properly?

1. Check the "Tabs" options in preferences.
I'm on a Mac, so I'm not quite sure what its called on a Windows machine, but apart from the minor details, the options between the two platforms are the same. There is a setting or two in the "Tabs" options that will allow you to do what you want.

6. and one more thing
I like to have a close button on the active tab only to prevent me from accidentally closing an inactive tab by carelessly clicking. Fortunately, this behavior is very easy to change. Type about:config into the location window and hit enter. Use the search window to find 'browser.tabs.closeButtons' and click on the integer setting. Set it to 0:

Other settings:
0: Display a close button on the active tab only
1: (default) Display a close button on each tab
2: Don't display any close buttons
3: Display a single close button at the end of the tab bar (Firefox 1.x behavior)

One of the things I love about Firefox is that it's almost infinitely configurable.

7. Thank you again, pokerfan, but it will take me a long time just to find how to configure the menu
thinggy. You're too many levels above me, and I'm experiencing pain, just reading what you're writing! But the thought was there, and I appreciate it.
