Google Earth and Me
I just got a new Dell with Windows 7 on it. So far, I love it. But I downloaded Google Earth, and although I could use it fine, apparently it didn't install on my hard drive, because when I closed it out, it was gone. I can't find it. Actually I repeated this process twice from CNET, and then from some more direct site. Everything seemed to go perfectly every time. I have installed Google Earth on many computers, and had no issue with getting it to stay on the hard drive.

Or, maybe it is there and I don't know how to look? For sure it is not in programs, nor is it an icon. I do find an updater or something in downloads but that's not exactly what I wanted. I don't want to have to go there and click "run" every time I want to get into Google Earth.

Is this a Me thing, or is it Google Earth, or Windows 7, or ????? Any ideas?

1. It's a known problem. A bit of searching will probably yield the fix:

6. here is what I did and it seems to have worked
I uninstalled Google Earth (even though I couldn't find it, it was in control panel to uninstall). I uninstalled Google Updater. I then used "advanced", installed an older version of Google Earth, and unchecked automatic updates.

I don't know which part was the problem-- the version of Google Earth or the updater, but at least I seem to have a working Google Earth now.

(This is for anyone else here who does a search and has this problem).

3. I've got a fairly new laptop
with Win 7 and had not installed Google Earth yet. Downloaded V 5.1 from Google site, installed fine, placed icon on desktop. Guess it's not Win 7.

Silly question, but are you sure you ran the installer? It seems Win 7 has a default Downloads directory in Users\Your Name. I had to go looking for it.

5. yes, I ran the installer
I thought all was fine. Google Earth worked fine too. But when I closed it out it was gone. Strange. I'm glad you got yours to work.
