Screwy Firefox 3.6 behavior: lots of my first "post message" clicks here at DU don't post
the message but take me to the lobby; then hitting the back button and reposting seems to yield success

I seem to have this problem only with Firefox 3.6

Ideas?

1. Firefox 3.6 is broken. Badly.
It crashes all the time on XP/Vista/7 and especially on my gentoo partition. It is near-beta quality. Switch to Opera or IE8, much better experience.

2. !! That's been happening to me for weeks!
I sort of figured it's a quirk in FF, and just pay attention so that I make sure the post gets posted.

I've scanned very thoroughly, I believe, so I don't think (fingers crossed) that it's any sort of malware. But I can't be positive.

At least I'm glad to hear someone else is experiencing the same thing

:hi:

(using FF 3.6 on a WinXP machine, all updates up-to-date)

3. I have
no problems at all. It must be something else that is causing this or a bad install of Firefox.
As for telling someone to switch to IE8 for a better experience as a post says in this thread I have no words. I now need to go drink before my mind explodes.

5. As far as I can tell, it's the only problem I'm having with FF3.6, and it's intermittent
I have plenty of browsers installed, and I'm not about to return to IE. I can purge stuff systematically and then try reinstalling -- I just hoped somebody else might have a clue about it

4. Not having any problems ...

FF 3.6 is installed on three systems here, different OSes in each.

I have experienced occasional problems with the DCForum system, which is what DU uses, on various platforms from time to time.

6. 3.6 is rock solid for me on Win 7 and XP
Have no idea why you are experiencing that kind of behaviour in the browser.

8. As much as I love Firefox, I need a new browser
It's driving me nuts. It crashes at least six times a day.

9. Start FF in safe mode from the programs menu. This is not (F8) safe mode.

11. Thanks, I'll try that when I get some time to troubleshoot
For now, I'm using Chrome and having a much smoother experience. One of my concerns about switching was getting some of the same add-ons that I had in Firefox and the main one was WOT and they make one for Chrome so I'm pretty satisfied. Now, I just need a good notes add-on and I may never go back to Firefox. Shame, because Firefox just makes more sense but if it crashes more than it's stable then it's not very useful.

10. try creating a new profile
http://www.ehow.com/how_2033373_new-profile-firefox.html

I had a problem a few years back that drove me nuts. Firefox had slowed to a crawl and was pegging the CPU at 100%. I tried everything. Tried to isolate to a flash problem, a site problem, disabled then removed all my extensions, went through the startup processes, ran antivirus/malware, etc. Then I tried creating a new profile and presto, problem 'solved.' I never did figure out exactly what in the profile was responsible but didn't really care.

12. Thanks, I appreciate the help
As I said in the post above, I will try to troubleshoot when I get some time. I really do appreciate the help, though. Have a great day.

13. Just a thought, but you might have an extension/add-on that might be
misbehaving. You might want to uninstall the add-ons and extensions and see how FF runs. If it's still a problem, uninstall FF and reinstall...doesn't take all that much time to do it and you might find the problem clears itself.

15. Might be this bug
Edited on Fri Mar-12-10 04:20 PM by charlie
Bug #547239, where forms that use POST get sent no data and a content-length header of zero. The fix is set to land in 3.6.2.

In the meanwhile, the patch author suggests a workaround (look for bzbarsky in the thread), namely checking your proxy settings:

Gotta remember to reset to automatic detection of proxy after the bug fix in the new release
