I bricked it for a few minutes, anyway. I had to restore it the "hard" way, which meant wiping all my media off it and reinstalling the firmware. I managed to restore everything from my library; it just took a chunk of time. This time...

Let this be a warning for the topic of this thread.

With that in mind, does anyone know how to jailbreak a "late 2009" 2G iPod Touch safely? I have plans for my ipod and a NES emulator, but unfortunately the emulator isn't an official iTunes Store app, for obvious reasons. I need to jailbreak the iPod to install the emulator, but one apparently popular method didn't work for me at all.

I tried following these instructions for using BlackRa1n to jailbreak it, but doing so requires a wifi connection so it can get the Cydia installer. I don't have wifi where I live, so a wifi-dependent jailbreaker is right out.

I then tried an offline alternative called Cyder, which uses Cydia or somehow depends on it and allows you to install apps via the USB cable, but BlackRa1n doesn't install Cydia until you get online with the iPod

I think that's what bricked my iPod, and I don't want to try it again until I'm sure I can handle running the jailbreaker and installing third-party apps from my desktop in Win7 via the USB cable. BlackRa1n claims to be able to do this, but again, trying to do so bricked my iPod completely; I even had to resort to the "hold both buttons until 5 seconds pass, release the one button and hold the other" method to reinstall the firmware and the OS.

Halp, plz. Need moar kewl appz.
