Can someone suggest a new free email service and also help me remove all of this Windows Live Bullsh
And don't tell me to get a mac, I'd already have one if I could afford it (although, I just read Mac repair ctr is starting to refuse service to people who smoke. I've smoked for 45 years and been trying to quit for 30. I just can't do it)

Here's the story: I live on a sailboat and Have no cable or phone lines coming in, so I can't use a regular ISP, I have to spend $170/mo for cellphone and wireless broadband (a quarter of my the $628/mo I get from SSI) to Verizon and they don't provide an email address, only text and I can't see well enough to text.

I've had the same hotmail addy since 2002 and as you can see from the thread below they suckered me into Windows Live and I can't get rid of it. The pop ups and sounds drive me nuts even though I turned them off the control panel. I have a Gmail acct, but it has my last name and I want to use the board at MajorGeeks.com and they don't allow last names. Meanwhile, everytime an email comes in on hotmail I get a popopup and noise (rememember, I supposedly turned it off)

I'm gonna open amother email account at Gmail, but they want you to have an alternate addy to send a passcode to let you back in. So where is the best place to open another free acct.

I can't dump the rest of Windows Live now without dumping the only addy I've had since 2002, where everyone I know sends mail to. I can't get a live human to even chat with out of Redwood, WA.

I want to join major geeks because I'm looking for a free program that will dump all of windows live without fuccking something up with the machine so it won't woork. I've got three laptops, an old dell with a 6 gig hd that doesn't work and a fairly nice ($800 at the time by internet) it doesn't work. The only one that works is this cheap Acer Aspire one that's too small. made me buy an external DVD drive cause it doesn't have one. But, I can't bitch too much because Mr. Obama paid for most of it with the extra $250 he sent to all Social Security folks. So the machine cost me $50 new and another $90 for the DVD drive (which I finally got to work, (Lite-on EZ-DUB).

So I need Help. Another free email acct somewhere else and a free program that wipes Windows Live from my machine without destroying it too.

On $ 628/mo and a $170/mmo ISP bill I can't afford to buy beans much less turkry for Thanksgiving.

Please help! (and please don't make this sick old man learn Linox)

1. I use hotmail
It says Windows Live but it doesn't make noise or pop-ups. I even have to refresh the page to see if I got new mail while I'm logged in. It sounds to me like you have instant messenger running, so you should just turn that off.

Otherwise, Yahoo has a free email service. Use some numbers in your user name to keep the spam down. Good luck, bud.

2. For the free email
Try www.fastmail.fm
I've had an account with them for ten or twelve years, mainly because they are not one of the big corporations, they don't fling advertising at you and their mail is magnificent, recommended on tech pages of NYT and elsewhere. It can be accessed via web interface or from Thunderbird.

As for getting rid of Windows Live, I'm not sure how nefarious it is in embedding itself into your computer, but you could try Revo uninstaller. http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Did your crop turn out nicely?

I think the email I'll give a shot.

The uninstaller sounds almost too good to be true, like it could uninstal Windows itself. Ubuntu here I come. Any ratings from classt sources (besides you?
See you on the flip flop

14. Mate, the crop is doing well
Remember we are upside down here, so I plant outdoors in about October and harvest in April. Been great growing weather, plenty heat then a few days rain.

I can't refer you to any particular posts about Revo, but I know a number of posters here use it regularly.

3. Egads!
Try Cricket for cell+broadband. If they cover your area they can do it for half the price. I won't say they are the best but cost vs. usage is pretty darn good.

Cervical, thoracic and lumbar. Also have Arthritis all through my spine. I get around, but with a walker.

Mostly, I sit here from daylight until Malloy goes off. Lots of useage

I've got 800 anytime + all the freebeees and a grandfathered in true unlimited broadband acct. They don't start charging extra after 5 gigs like they do now. I run over 10 or 15 gigs some months. DL-ing radio eats up the gigs

4. If your wireless is broadband, you can get free AOL
I think Yahoo also still has free email.

They'll all advertise to you, that's how they pay the bills.

As for killing Windows Live, dunno. Just not using the damned thing will probably do it.

When your cheap Aspire conks out, get an estimate on reanimating the Dell. It will probably be cheaper than a new laptop, even though the prices on those continue to fall and there are deals all over the place on used ones.

9. Yep, that would be the one to fix
just find a fixer who will give you an estimate for a charge that reflects your circumstances.

It would help if you do the web search now for the symptoms it had just before it died so you have a rough idea what did.

All parts aren't created equal, and often one part takes another with it, so make sure you compare that estimate against the $375 or so you'd need for a POS laptop to replace it.

15. It's in my DL box, but I haven't installed it yet
I've decided to go with the email service out of Austrailia that Canetoad sugested upthread, I'm gonna go with one of their paid options though, only $4.95/yr US for the cheapest, but that's with automated help. I'm gonna go one step up from there: $19.95/yr with real people to help you and lots more features too. I suggest everyone look at it.

For some reason, I've always been adverse to YAHOO. Prrobably cause I can't get their stupid cowboy jingle out of my head. I'm, gonna try the uninstaller he suggested too, looks almost too good to be true. It's in my DL box as well.

I have to wait until the first of the month though, SSI folks are flat broke about now.

13. I'd suggest switching to Thunderbird
You can set it up with the hotmail server settings (so no need to change your email address) & switch off Live Mail, so no more pop-ups: I'm not aware of any complications caused by uninstalling Live Mail, but you can leave it on & unused.

For a free email provider, I'd suggest Yahoo as fairly painless.
