Connect parallel Zip drive to USB?
I have an old Zip 100 Parallel drive that I have to keep around because I work with graphics and these things STILL have an amazing penetration in this market. I'm running into a problem now, though, because I'm getting a new video capture card here at work and our resident desktop geek just informed me that he needs the LPT1 IRQ to get it to function (I print via LAN, so it's only used for the Zip drive).

Has anyone seen any kind of adapter that lets you run parallel port devices via USB? I'm thinking that with all of the laptops sold without parallel ports today, some company somewhere has to have done this. If not, does anyone have any other suggestions about how I can keep this old drive working a few more years?

2. No, it wouldn't.
That's got a Centronix plug on the end, and the Zip's have a 25 pin Parallel. I even went to the manufacturers website to see if they made a 25 pin version and came up luckless.

3. Well, there's this...
...says it's to be used with STANDARD PRINTERS ONLY, though. I wonder if they know something special about Zip drives.

4. From the bottom of that page...
"THIS DEVICE IS TO BE USED ONLY WITH PRINTERS, NO OTHER PARALLEL DEVICES WILL WORK. NOT EVEN MULTI-FUNCTION DEVICES"

Darn x(

5. Just assign
a different IRQ to the parallel port.
