Question about Matrox Dual Head
If my video card already has two out ports, can I add a Matrox Dual Head
http://www.warcom.com.au/shop/flypage/av-equipment/video-cards/4156
and hook two screens to it and another screen to the second video card port?

I realise this may be dependent on the grunt of the card; mine is getting old, X 700 pro, but a new card is not out of the question. I know it sounds over the top, but I'm getting to the stage where three are necessary.

From my reading, it seems you can run different resolutions, applications of the different monitors, making it possible to use unmatched monitors.

Any one have one of these, or know exactly how it works?

1. I hadn't even heard of these, but I've gotta think you need MEGA video card RAM to pull it off.
At least pull it off to the point of having decent resolution and color depth. At least 512, probably a gig of onboard memory for the card.

2. It looks as if you can.
I am not familiar with it, but from the brief reading at the Matrox site it appears to run as an external video processor. Doesn't sound as if it would be great for gaming but should excel for most desktop applications.

cool. It gets a good review here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Matrox/DualHead2Go_Digital

3. Great. Thanks Dawg
That's what I thought. Since reading about these gadgets a couple of months ago I've had the feeling they are exactly what I want.

In the picture with 2 monitors and the laptop in the site you posted, I'm wondering if that is a TripleHead, which is a significant price increase over the Dual Head. That is why I'm keen to find out if I can use the extra port on the current video card.

Also, all 3 monitors would not be in use at once. One is on an extension cable in another part of the room for watching videos. My gaming is pretty well limited to Thief 2; the main use would be for 2 desktop monitors for large Illustrator and Indesign projects.

Better go do some research at the University of Google......

4. Just found the FAQ on the Matrox site
My computer has two video outputs; can I connect the DualHead2Go to one of the outputs and another monitor to the second output for a total of three monitors?

Yes.

Looks like I'm good to go.
