Cookies, and I don't mean Christmas.

Hi, this is Ignorance humbly presenting itself.

My computer is running much too slowly. There's a multitude of cookies on my hard drive. Which do I delete, which do I keep? Or do I delete all of them and selectively allow new cookies back onto my system?

Any advice is welcome.

1. Probably not the cookies slowing you down

But a purge of the little suckers won't do any harm. Just to be on the safe side, I periodically open my saved passwords window (Firefox) and take a screenshot of all the user names and passwords used to log onto obscure websites that I probably will never visit again - ya know, just in case!

Maybe your comp. needs a good clean out. I'd start with running CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ which clears the cookies for you as well.

It also may be worth checking which programs run at start up. I honestly can't work out why anyone ever needs such crap as MS Office, AcroTray, Java update etc etc running ALL the time......

Then a defrag may be in order. A nice free program is Smart Defrag from http://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.html
