Question about video drivers.
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 01:28 PM by Wilber_Stool
I am using an Nvidia GFource2TI on a 800mz Pent.III. I can't remember where I got this advice but they said it is better to use drivers from the general time the card was new than to use the newest drivers. Does this seem right?
Thanks in advance.

1. Well, my rule of thumb with drivers is
that if it ain't broke don't fix it. Why put in new drivers if everything is working fine?

2. Nvidia drivers are usually worth downloading IMO
I have always put newest Nvidia drivers on my hardware.

---now this usually results in a need to have them, but I trust NVIDIA updates--if you are running VISTA, especially so, because their original vista drivers were not the best because they had to adapat from what MS gave them to what MS eventually put out...

3. Small point ...

He's running an 800MHz Pentium III.

He ain't runnin' Vista.

I'd agree with your general assessment of NVidia graphics drivers, but you can't do that blindly with older hardware, and a GeForce2 TI is definitely older hardware.

10. OmegaDrivers are awesome ...

I always replaced the standard NVidia and ATI drivers with those from OmegaDrivers.

Wish there was some equivalent of them for Linux.

4. With older hardware, probably ...

It really depends on the specific device we're talking about, but in this case NVidia stopped supporting this card a couple years ago.

The final drivers I could find on NVidia's site are for Windows 2000/XP

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html

There's a separate driver for 98/ME, I but I didn't find it.

5. Thanks guys,
that's what I thunk. I'll just leave it the way it is. It's an oldie alright. Just lucky I don't have to turn a crank to get it to work.
