Why can't I stay connected to the internet?
I'm running Windows 98SE, and I get disconnected after 5-10 minutes.
Then it starts loading a page and I get that white page that says it can't load it. To get back on the internet, I need to reboot the system.

Firefox/Netscape/Opera, same thing.

I have cable internet, and they said it was fine from their end, my modem is working.

The rest of my computer is running fine.

I released/renewed all that, didn't do anything. Ran winsockfix, nothing. I did run spybot and adaware...nothing.

Help?

Should/can I reinstall the lan card's driver, or reinstall Win98, or...?

Hope someone can help...

1. Check for extra crap running on your computer first.

Bring it up, then do CTRL+ALT+DEL (once) and look at your task list.
Get rid of all the stuff you don't need. Then see if you stay connected.

If it works better, you can use Start->Run "msconfig" Startup tab to
uncheck all the stuff that should go away. I usually keep it down
to Scanreg and Explorer.

2. Trying that right now...I thought you needed Systray and Wmexe?
But things seem to be going okay...(been about 7 minutes, will check back if it doesn't work!)

Usually minimal says: "Explorer" and "Systray" in the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen.

4. Right after that post it cut out on me, LOL.
Sigh. Thanks for that suggestion though, everything loaded up much quicker (I guess cause I wasn't waiting for all the programs to load, duh, LOL).

Man, what *is* this....maybe I should reinstall Windows.

5. Well, it sounds like it's some page that it's trying to load.
And it sounds like it's doing it by itself, not at your behest.
So try to find out what it is. Are there any automatic updating
type of things going on? Task monitor crap or I don't know what?
It doesn't sound like it's a Windoze issue, it sounds like something
else. I know pages that will crash mozilla, and I've been hung in
Windoze a number of times, and it's a browser issue. Of course if
you do a reinstall it might fix it somehow, or not.
