Printing digital photos
I have so many digital photos and I just never print them, but now I want to -- but, I don't want to deal with doing it myself.

So, what's the best way to do it? Seems to me that there should be machines, kiosks, in stores somewhere, where you put in the CD and choose which photos to print and it does it, right? Where are those? And, do I need to format them ahead of time to the size I want, or will "they" (whoever that is) do it automatically?

While I love having a digital camera and not having to deal with film developing, this certainly is the down side -- having tons of photos sequestered inside my hard drive.

What do you folks do?

1. One way you could try
is uploading pictures to one of these places...
www.kodak.com
www.walgreens.com
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/cvsmain

They each have different options such as getting the pictures mailed to you or having you pick them up from a local store.

I don't live in California so I don't know which stores you have there. And there are stores that have the kiosks like you say but I've never used those.

I have a Kodak digital camera (not the greatest but it's ok) and it came with a photo printer.

2. Thanks for the reply
After I posted I did some research (why do I always do it in that order?) and found those services, but even then I hesitated, not wanting to upload photos. I realize that's the easiest, but I just err on the side of paranoia when possible (which is always :D ).

Of course, even if I bring a CD into a store, no doubt *they* will upload them to their whatever, which no doubt is connected to the net, so it's probably all the same.

So, I'm ordering a photo print cartridge for my printer, exactly what I wanted to avoid, lol

3. Just go to a Kodak kiosk

Kiosk locations, FAQ and other stuff can be found here:
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-locale=en_US&pq-path=7959

You can use the memory card from your camera, a CD, a flash drive, etc. I dump the images from my digital camera to a CD or a flash drive, pop it in the kiosk and follow the onscreen instructions. You can print them all just the way they are (4x6 is the default), or you can choose pictures to enlarge, crop, edit, etc. It's really easy. The kiosks allow you correct common problems like red eye and you can also fix the color, brightness, contrast, etc. You can even add text and/or borders if you want to.

Some locations (like Target) have a do-it-yourself kiosk, but they also have a photo counter where the employee takes your CD and prints every picture for you. It's convenient if you have a lot of photos and you just want some 4x6 prints. Obviously, they won't do any editing or cropping for you. If you have a graphics editing program, like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can do your editing before taking them in for printing. (I "fix" a lot of my photos in Paint Shop Pro X2 before I take them to the kiosk.)

About doing it yourself at home ...
I have an Epson V500 photo scanner and an R320 photo printer, so I can print great photos at home. It works well if I only want to print a few, but if I have a lot of photos, it's much easier - and cheaper - to go to the kiosk. :-)

4. I hate Walmart, I haven't tried it with CVS
but you can goto their websites and upload the pics and pick them up the same day. I thought it was cool stuffs. I boycott Suk-mart but I'd cheat the boycott if I got a good pic :P

:hi:
