1. Thanks, I've been thinking of checking it out

I run multiple machines with multiple OS's (Ubuntu Gutsy, Vista and XP) and have external hard drives that I share between the two OS's on a dual boot machine.

Do you see much speed degradation on Truecrypt drives? How about on older hardware?

Any assistance is appreciated.

2. I haven't started playing with it as yet.

But I do plan to. I will let you know how it goes. That said, some smart friends of mine consider this the gold standard.
