Any parents of twins here?
Hello! I am looking for some advice or maybe just some perspective. I've just found out that I am expecting twins (in september) and was wondering what to expect during the pregnancy and beyond. I have a one and a half year old son and don't want him to feel left out once the twins come home. How does one balance having two new babies with keeping up with a toddler and making him feel just as loved as before? Will the pregnancy be difficult to recover from? What kind of help should I be asking for? (We have no relatives within 3000 miles, unfortunately) Will I need to take off from work earlier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

2. Hey there! I have a 3 yr old and 21 month old twins :-)

Congratulations!!!
I found out I was pregnant with the twins when my older son was 1yr. Quite a surprise for us. I had a difficult pregnancy due to a rare blood disorder and had to deliver at 35 weeks via emergency c-section because of HELLP Syndrome. The babies did very well and didn't need any extra help - they went right into the regular nursery at the hospital. The recovery for me wasn't bad. The first few weeks were the most difficult for me. Both of my twins had colic. My older son basically ignored them at first, now they all get along great. He is very protective of them. I don't know about work, I was at home when I was pregnant.
If you don't mind me PMing you I can send you the address to a support group that is great for parents of multiples. There are a lot of women on there that are currently expecting twins, some of us that have already had ours and are there to support each other and give advice when needed. They are a wonderful group.
Contact me anytime if you need anything :-)

Here are my guys:

3. Oh, they are so cute!
I have so much respect for parents of multiples. Taking care of my singles almost killed me, especially the first few months.

4. Thank You!
The first weeks were definitely the hardest, but my husband had saved about 6 weeks to take off of work. Now I find it hard to take them all out, even though they are very well behaved in public. It is just getting them all in the carseats then putting the stroller or wagon in and all the loading and unloading. I usually wait until my husband has a day off and then run my errands. They are wonderful boys, a little active, but they really have cabin fever right now and are literally climbing the walls.

I always get that question, 'How do you do it?' and really I don't know, I just do.

8. My sister-in-law had twins
last November. She is living proof that you can go to 40 weeks with twins (she was induced at exactly 40 weeks), give birth to both vaginally (9 and 7 pounds respectively) and go back to work within 10 weeks. Plus, she breastfed both (albeit, she had to supplement). She took the final two weeks of her pregnancy off to rest. She was the talk of the maternity ward of a large hospital in Minneapolis! She only gained 45 pounds (so did I, but I only had one) and had lost all but 7 within a month. If I didn't love her, I'd resent her enomously, especially in light of the fact that I still have 20 pounds of pregnancy weight to lose 7 months later.

10. I do not have multiples but I know of a group.....
called "Mothers Of Multiples" (you can google this) I found out about them because they have the most wonderful kid's clothing sales. I have been buying clothing from them for 7 years now! They are supposed to have play dates, mom get togethers and just a lot of support for people who are in your position. You should look them up. Good luck and congratulations.
