Can I freeze hummus?
Trader Joe's makes some yummy tomato/basil hummus I'd like to keep on hand.

TIA!

1. Good question.

I don't know the answer. But, my gut instinct, knowing what goes into it (garbanzo bean paste, lemon juice, olive oil, tahini, salt are the basics, plus the "frills" added to make the different flavors), says "yes" -- it might be inclined to separate and yield a little liquid, but should be able to be stirred back together without any problems.

2. Yes.
It might separate or get watery when you thaw it, but stirring it should fix that. However, don't freeze for longer than a month. The texture starts getting nasty.

5. If you don't mind remixing it after it thaws, sure
The oily sesame and watery chickpea paste will definitely separate during the thawing process.

It should be easy to remix in a food processor.

7. ***UPDATE***
Good news! No problem freezing hummus! The consistency is slightly different but it still tastes and looks fine!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Bon appetit!
