1. I missed your posting somehow!
Hmmm... So this could be any kind of pasta. At first, I was thinking of elbows and tuna and cream of whatever soups. But then bow tie pasta came to mind and other ingredients. Such a basic dish - the casserole with pasta but my knees are weak over trying to think of something that's "jump out of your socks" different.

2. I wonder if they're looking for scratch stuff or one of those ......
...... 'back-o-the-box' kinda things ...... can of some soup, some durkee's onion rings, etc., etc.

We did a tuna noodle casserole from scratch a while back cuz Sparkly Jr likes it and I wanted to show her the real deal. It exceeded everyone's expectations. It involved everyting from scratch ... egg noodles, bechamel base, fresh shelled peas, gilled fresh tuna .... the whole magilla.

3. The magazine is a new spin-off from Cooks Illustrated
so I expect they're looking for "real thing" kind of recipes, not the canned soup kind of thing. I was especially thinking about your asperagus pasta that you posted here a few weeks ago...

6. The asparagus pasta wouldn't really be a casserole, would it?
By the way, did you try it?

10. No, I guess it wouldn't exactly be a casserole
but it made me think you had the creativity to come up with a winning entry...

No,I haven't made the asparagus pasta. I live alone so I don't do a lot of main-dish cooking.... sad to say

5. From scratch casseroles are so good!
Each one is different from the one before. Like my mom's soups that were made with what she had on hand. I hope you submit a recipe to the contest!

7. I'm kiinda thinking about it.
Back when we (my partners and me) used to do a newsletter, we often included recipes. I'm wondering if I can actually even qualify. I might be considered a professional, even though I haven't boiled water for money in more than 30 years.

8. Yummmmmmmm
You just made me drool. :9

I did a similar scratch tuna casserole once but with regular egg noodles in a bag. My son, who's a tuna casserole freak, said for all the work involved he'd rather I just go back to the regular pre-fab version. It was a nice change for me tho.

I haven't made a pasta casserole other than the tuna thingy in a while. Lately, I like my pasta with just olive oil, garlic, maybe some parsley and lotsa grated cheese.

9. I've never entered a baking contest.
It might be fun. Unfortunately I have tons of stuff going on in the next few weeks & (most important) I'm no where talented enough to do it.

Are you going to try? Have you ever entered a contest before? I'll bet you'd be good.

best

11. I don't think it's for me...
No, I've never entered a cooking contest. I live alone so I don't do much main-dish cooking, plus I'm not really creative when it comes to combining ingredients. I'm much more of a "recipe reader" kind of cook.

I'm sure there is SOMEONE here who could win it, though...
