1. Is it a Jerusalem Artichoke
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 07:40 PM by The empressof all
Also known as a sun choke.

I had some just last night with mushrooms and quinoa. They're lovely but kind of on the pricey side and not always available.

The close up picture makes it hard to figure out the size. Jerusalem Artichokes are the size of fingerling potatoes. They also are a little browner and bumpier...It's hard to tell.

5. They are about two inches long, and reddish as shown. They look
Like grubs.

They are about the size of a thumb.

2. Well, they could be.
Not positive, though. How big are they? Hard to tell from the photo, nothing for scale.

They also kind of remind me of fresh tumeric.

7. Must be
Jerusalem artichokes are clearly browner and are not necessarily that uniform in shape or size.

So where did you get these things and how are you going to cook them?

roasted rosemary chicken and carrots over Israeli Couscous. Then mushrooms with celery and orange. That mushroom side was my wife's dish. It's sweet and goes well with the Couscous. So we had the sweet and savory, and a very nice fresh hop ale (Sierra Nevada Celebration) to wash it down.
