What's for dinner? ~ Sunday Snowing Edition!
It's a beautiful, dark, snowy morning here in the burg. My comfort food weekend is coming to a close with tonight's selection of Homemade Chicken and Dumplings! And a friend is bringing a little venison over and Bill plans to make venison jerky with it, so it's a low impact kitchen day for me.

What's for dinner where you are?

1. I have jambalaya cooking now.
And, just ahead of real cold setting in here, I went out and picked a Portuguese Sea Cabbage/Kale (Couve Penca or Couve Trouchada).

It has qualities of cabbage (forming sort of a loose head), regular kale (it's mostly eaten for the leaves), and even bok choi (the petioles are thick and fleshy in the same way).

I planted about 6 or 8 of these. They are extremely attractive in the garden, much like ornamental cabbages. So, I was kind of loathe to pick them.

I'm anxious to see how I like it -- I suspect it's going to be a real winner. I think I'm going to make a cabbage soup with ground beef, a tomato base, and various vegetables in it.

Here's a link to a photo I found online of what this plant looks like:

3. Have you tasted it yet?
Wow...It's gorgeous!
I miss my garden. :(
We have a tiny lot but used to manage to grow peppers and heirloom tomatoes. We didn't do it this year. And I missed my green zebras a LOT this past summer. I'm about to start some herbs indoors...most specifically basil. I love Caprese salad and also homemade pesto. :)

Hope you have a wonderful dinner. It sounds delicious.

11. Only raw. I SHOULD be cooking something out of it right now!
Instead, I'm goofing on the Internet.

The reason I said I believe it will be a real winner is that even raw, it seems really nice. The green part, of course, pretty much tastes like any other kale.

But, the thick, fleshy petiole (leaf stalk) is actually very mild, and has pretty much the texture of tender bok choi. I could see it being quite nice raw with a dip. The skin isn't even tough.

I don't think my soup is going to get made today. I might just make some scrambled eggs and toast for dinner and call it good. Tomorrow.

Back to pampering mode for you, missy. LOL

And the bird is out of the oven, getting ready to eat soon as the asparagus is steamed. And where are you, huh? ;)

16. Well my Chicken and Dumplings plan was thwarted
Bill ended up with a big hunk of venison and made a huge pot of chili and our friend came to dinner.
