Recommend a slicer!
I really like really thin bread - think melba toast. I can't cut it that thin, no matter how hard I try. I know part of that is my bread - it has to be very fine grained (and freezing it helps)
but even when everything else is right, I just can't do it.

So I'm thinking about getting a slicer. I can think of other things to do with it, too, so it won't be a total waste.

Anyone have one? What do you think of them?

1. A good Chinese cleaver
allows me to slice slightly stale bread Melba toast thin.

The bread does have to be stale, and it won't work on commercial "balloon" bread.

2. We use an electric knife.
My husband is pretty good at getting really thin slices, though we've never tried for "melba toast" thin.

3. Waring ... looks to be like the best bet for a home slicer

I've never used this, but I looked it over very closely at BeddBaffandBeyondReason. It looks quite sturdy. Lots of metal and not too much plastic. The one on dsiplay at the store was taken apart and its guts were exposed. The innards appeared pretty durable. The BB&B price is the same as the online prices here .....

.... plus you save on shipping. I also liked the general design. Petty much a mini version of a comemrcial slicer. I was impressed by it.
