1. Chowder?
You probably could also look for Razor Clam or geoduck recipes. I make a great Fried Razor Clam. I pound it out to a steak, Bread it and deep fry. It's a meal well worth the work particularly if you can get the clam meat already out of the shell. I usually serve it with lots of lemon wedges and a very garlicy aioli.

3. They are on the small side
But with my tooth issues the pounding them makes them the only way I can enjoy eating them. I love clams but I grew up eating the little guys. When I moved out west and became acquainted with the Razor Clams I fell in love a bit more. I'm not that into the Goeduck though. They kind of scare me.

4. Back east, it was the Quahog
(pronounced CO-hog). About the only thing you could do to make those things palatable was to grind or mince them, mix them with stuffing, pack them back into the shell, and bake them.

The funniest dinner party I ever went to was when a new cook tried to make chowder out of them. It was just like chewing on inner tubes!

The horse clam might be the same.

6. I always thought it was because the siphon
resembles a prominent feature of the male horse's anatomy. But I could be wrong.
