Mangia, Mangia! Dine in Italian homes!
'Companion' is derived from cum panis, which means "with whom I break the bread."

1. What a fantastic article
That was a wonderful read. I could just imagine doing that.

Thank you for posting it.

Someday, I am going to eat myself around the world and Italy would be fantastic.

4. That's the place to start! I have a file folder on foodie places I want to go to.
I started reading up on foods of regions just by using Google with fabulous results. A fun project. I found a wonderful restaurant in Lucca, Italy that just happened to be in the NY Times right before I was going to Tuscany. I took a train to Lucca from where I was based in Montecatini Terme and, with NYT article clutched in my hand, arrived at the ristorante for lunch! They smiled when they saw the Times article...they knew about it and were pleased that it led me to their door! And what a meal!

You can Google the NYT travel section, probably, on any country, to see what comes up...I also found some good stuff on restaurants in the northern Italian cities I was visiting (on another trip) but my plans got somewhat derailed when I got virus that curtailed some of my food consumption for a couple of days! Lesson learned: bring Immodium on any trip you go on. It makes it easier if you get a bug on the plane going over (which is what I suspect was my issue). I did find out that in the larger towns and cities in at least Northern Italy, the pharmacias carry Immodium and there seems to be a pharmacia on every street over there...

3. You're welcome.
Daughter marrying next year, loves Italy, and I think I'll 'join' the group for her so she+ can participate during their honeymoon! Good gift, you think???

Don't know whether I'll ever be able to do it, but sure hope I can get back there!
