So I changed jobs at my current employer.
Edited on Fri Mar-05-10 05:38 PM by hippywife
I am now the Dining Services Coordinator. It's all paper and computer work assisting and supporting the Director of the department who is a CIA grad, really, keeping up with the dietary requirements of the residents, etc. I don't expect to go as far as pipoman, but it's a foot in the door. Maybe one day in the future, they will let me play with the food. LOL

1. Yay, you!!! Congratulations HW. I'll bet you will find that it's much
more than paper and computer work. Keep us posted.

3. I really did need a change, too.
Edited on Fri Mar-05-10 07:04 PM by hippywife
Something less stressful, and more in the background of the whole scene. I needed to learn something new. Doing the same job, with my day controlling me instead of me controlling my day, was getting very frustrating and adding to the stress.

I think he was glad to that I could sit down and find my way around the specialized software after only being shown once. I really think I'm going to like it.

5. This sounds like a wonderful job for you!
It sounds like it could be an opportunity for you to make suggestions that could help lead to more healthful eating for the folks there.

I'm glad you're optomistic about this new change. I hope it works out well for you.

7. Well that will be a real uphill battle
as a lot of the focus right now is just to make it taste good while saving money. Things are kinda tight at the moment as they are everywhere.

He and I share the same philosophy on the fact that they are old and they should be able to eat whatever they want. It's so silly that the doctors admit them with heart healthy and other such diets. There are times when it can have an immediate effect on their daily well-being though such as water retention from too much sodium, but going way overboard on special diets is not really warranted at this stage in their lives for the most part.

Ooo-la-la! Title sounds just great! Fun to get promoted, eh? I bet you will get to play with the food someday because obviously your food philosophies are already welcomed.

Good job! :woohoo:

12. You know that's how it always starts, right?
Soon enough, your boss will move on. They'll first think they need a replacement, but then they'll think of you, already there, kinda knowing the job.

They'll give you a try. You'll relish it. They give you a raise.

You're in the biz. And you'll be there for life.

Congrats!!!! :hi:

16. In the environment I work
it does require a tad more than that. It would require classes and a CDM. Right now, and probably for the foreseeable future, I am satisfied with it just being a change of scenery and routine.

21. Congratulations on the new job!
Sand Plum needs a good chef! My friend complains of the food all the time. They make no allowances for diabetics, I've heard. When I visited her last June she invited me to lunch there and the oven-fried chicken was so dry it was inedible. That's right around the corner from you! :hi:

Working with a CIA grad -- wow. I hope that you do get to play with the food some day, or at least get to steal some ideas from the CIAer.

I've had meals at both the CIA original campus in NY state and the former restaurant for the Napa Valley campus. Mmmm.
