Got a couple of baking projects going at the moment.
Doing this bread that was posted by Phoebe Loosinhouse in another thread. I just put it in the oven in my old crockpot insert with the heavy glass lid. The dough felt very nice after the second rise.

Also have these on their second rise and ready to bake once the bread comes out of the oven.

Gotta still make some oatmeal cookies by adamant demand. LOL And dinner will be fried chicken, smashed taters and baby peas, with hopefully a lovely loaf of freshly baked bread.

As an aside, is it just me or has anyone else noticed on a lot of these food blogs like the one just above, Smitten Kitchen, et al, most all of the comments are just people talking about how good the recipe looks and drooling over the pics, but rarely does anyone seem to actually make the recipe and then come back to comment or share their results?

That's the best thing about our little group here is that we share recipes and then do the work, talking about what works and what doesn't so everyone gets some really good advice in the end.

:hi:

1. I don't mean to be a skeptic...
...but I'm afraid that some food bloggers are being paid to mention certain products and books. I know there is a definite market for that kind of money making, and it is bound to influence some of the food bloggers.

I'd like to smell your kitchen, kid!

Today I am freezing more raspberries -- am picking about two quarts every other day for the freezer. My dinner guests cancelled, so the plan to make boeuff bourguignonne was quashed and will be having a simple stroganoff with some of the meat and mushrooms. Anything made with sour cream and dill is happy stuff, IMO.

We are having a delightful time watching birds here. I don't know if we are on some kind of flight path or not, but the variety and quantity of birds is awesome. Tiny little finches in the butterfly bush, a huge crane or heron that landed at the top of a tall cedar tree and was then buzzed by a lone hummingbird who went up to take a look-see, and flights of all kinds of things all around in the oaks and maples and firs and getting drunk on berries. It's pretty cool, and the cats are loving it too.

2. Boeuf bourguignon!!
That sounds wonderful! I really am going to make it one of these days. It's on my list. And definitely mushrooms, sour cream and dill would make me a happy camper. :9

You are going to be so happy with all that fruit in your freezer through the winter. Really will brighten up a gray sloggy day.

Birds are so fun to watch, especially when there's such a variety. We have often thought about going down to the Mississippi delta for the southerly migration. What a show that would be. Sounds like you are finding all kinds of wonderful reasons to enjoy your new abode.

3. Here are the pics!
The bread is nice and crisp on the outside and very light on the inside with a lovely flavor.

Now for the cinnamon twists. You know me and my twists and braids. Not so good. But they taste so wonderful. I used a combo of bread flour, white whole wheat and unbleached AP. Any time I bake something like this we usually split one out of the oven to try it, but we both ate a whole one. They are so yummy we decided they don't need the icing.

5. It's insanely easy bread, too.
It's as easy as the Ain5 bread and even more flavorful, I think. :)

6. I'm surprised you don't have people floating on the cooking aromas
wafting outside your kitchen door. Cinnamon rolls smell heavenly and fresh bread is truly soul-satisfying fare. Enjoy the fall and the chance to bake again and watching the birds flying and all the rest. :kick:

7. Who said there's not? Huh?

Seriously, I asked Bill if we could just have cinnamon twists for dinner tonight. His response was, "Sure, as long as we can have fried chicken for dessert."

Rats! Foiled again!

13. Bill got you number, gal!
Always good to have a heads-up hubby, even if the ones that are do seem to side with their own self interests. Good eatin' at your house this week--as usual! :hi:

That dinner last week was worth crashing your party for. It had major drool appeal. :9

9. Like I said...
this group is really great about sharing their victories and defeats so we all can all be encouraged to try different things and help each other out. We all learn from each other. Except for me and my braiding and twisting.

10. That bread looks delicious. I don't think I'm ready for bread
baking, yet. Think I'll try making oatmeal cookies from the recipe on the oatmeal box.

12. LOL. I took the leap and put together some sourdogh starter today.

On the other hand, it may turn out to be something else -- 4 cups of a home facial pack or the makings of paper mache, lol, only the Shadow knows right now but I'll check back in next Monday or so.

14. You know what I'm hungry for?
Macadamia and white chocolate chip cookies! I'm bad! I'll probably make them sooner or later and only have one (per day!) :)

17. I can't wait for it to cool off the next couple of days so I can START FALL BAKING.
Except for weird REALLY cold weather a few some weeks ago, it's been an excessively warm fall with downright icky hot nights. This past weekend was hot, windy, and muggy - an unusual combination.
