Pitting Cherries with a paper clip! Video Link
This was a new one for me but she made it look super easy. I have a pound and a half of Rainiers that I'm gonna try this with today.

1. I used a bamboo stick last time and it worked great as well.

2. That's craziness
I have to say that even though my antique cherry pitter is only slightly less work and mess, this seems awfully labor-intensive to me. OTOH, if having one-holed cherries was something I felt I had to have, I think I'd dig out an old pottery loop and at least have a proper tool to wield--doesn't the wire loop on the left look like just the thing?

3. I love stuff like this
and Julia Child's demonstration of shucking oysters with a beer can opener was a real revelation for me back in the 60s. It remained my method of choice until I moved away from oyster country.

4. I tried it and it's terrific!
I have one of those old fashioned cherry pitters that hooks on to the edge of the counter. It's going into the goodwill box. The paper clip technique was easy and far less messy. The one hole cherry lost far less juicy goodness and the cherry looked less mangled. It took a few attempts but I quickly got into a rhythm and a pound and a half went by real fast. My only complaint with this is that now I'll have to share the cherries with the SO and the kid. Neither of them want to deal with pits so they leave my cherry stash alone. Now with a whole bowl of pitted ones in the fridge I better eat fast!

5. I certainly will try this
I've been just eating them whole and spitting out the pits. I tried the chopstick technique but didn't like the results.

Thanks for sharing the info, and glad you have tried it and know it really works.

:hi:

6. That's a great idea. We just bought a cherry pitter and it only gets the pit
out about half the time. Can't wait to try this.
