Question for those of you who use cast iron cookware
I currently use Le Creuset cookware and I just love it. We need a new stove and my husband wants to get one of those with the radiant flat surfaces. I would prefer gas, but because we are having such a hard time with our gas logs :grr:, I am willing to go with this type.

My question is, can you use the radiant cooktops with cast iron? Or is it futile?

Thanks to all for your responses.

1. I have not had a problem with this

I use my cast Iron on my glass top all the time. Of course you really need to be gentle with lifting and placing any heavy pot on these surfaces. They can scratch and crack if you slide or drop things on them. I have always used gas but I've come to love my glass top for ease of cleaning. Mine has a bridge for griddles and roasting pans that spans two burners and a warming zone. I use "Bar Keepers" friend to keep it clean.

It will take some getting use to if you make the switch. You certainly don't have the immediacy and control one enjoys with gas but I've become adept at moving pots pretty quickly to achieve temperature balance.

2. Thanks for your response.
I would really prefer gas, but I don't think we are going to go that route just now and I really do need a new stove.

4. i do what Empress does adding a razor blade in a holder i scrape
the surface (carefully) with to get the brown bits off. I keep the blade holder in the utensil drawer by the stove (hubby had to go buy a new one for his toolbox)

i use my 14" and 10" skillet and my heavy dutch oven on the cooktop all the time and have never scratched the surface (and I drag the pots around all the time)

your Le Creuset will work fine, just don't drop the pan from a foot up LOL

5. Your Le Creuset
Probably had a directions sheet that told you to lift those pots straight up off the burners to avoid scratching.

Same thing with cast.
