What's wrong with this recipe?
I got an old church made cookie booklet after my grandmother died and the following recipe had a note made by my great aunt in 1961: 'Ugh! Soak cookie sheets 10 mins in hot water and remove slop to garbage." :rofl:

1 cup peanuts, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk, and 2 Tbsp flour. Mix ingredients and drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet.

So what's missing, maybe an egg or leavener? I googled the title (chewy crisps) and found something similar but it called for 1 cup of peanut butter and no flour. For some reason I'm now fascinated with this recipe, maybe it's the funny comment or that my mom remembers being there when she made these. Maybe I'll try the one with PB. There was probably a typo in the recipe somewhere. Thoughts?

In which case maybe more flour since Magic Bars call for a 1 1/2 cups of graham cracker crumbs.

I was little, so go easy on me :) But anyway, what resulted was kind of like a candy that spread all over the pan. The funny thing is my family liked it! But I can imagine it would be a bear to scrape off the pan. So that's my guess.

On edit: Now that I think about it, my "cookies" did indeed stick to the pan. I can imagine that happening with your great aunt's recipe.

3. What it should ideally do is cook down to a soft version
of peanut brittle. The sugar + sweetened condensed milk will turn into a caramel when exposed to heat. The flour will keep if from running over the side of the cookie sheet and onto the bottom of the oven.

Poor Granny probably didn't cook it on parchment paper and it welded itself to her cookie sheets, grease and all.\

Just keep an eye on it if you try it. It seems like something that could go from peanut and caramel to burned in a very short time.

Don't you love those old cookbooks with notes? This one is a hoot!
