We're talkin Cake Balls
While in Dallas a few weeks ago, I had a conversation about cake balls. The woman was telling me how her friend had started a business selling them.

"What are cake balls?", I asked, my mind deep in the gutter trying to imagine cake testicles.:silly:

I won't type the recipe but here are several links to the delectable morsels:

It is too easy and there are endless combinations of cake and icing. I prefer the candy melts you get at Hobby Lobby over the "bark" you get in the grocery store. You can achieve a thinner coating with it.

Oh, and if you have money to throw away, you can pick up some at Needless Markup

3. Gag
They're pretty, but reading the recipe definitely triggers my gag reflex. Cake mix plus canned frosting plus fake chocolate coating is too artificial and too sweet for my tastes. Now a sphere of real cake covered with real chocolate might do it for me--I remember that combo as the Mohrenkopf of my childhood.

9. I want to order some from that site!
I remember getting strawberry tarts like on that page with a custard underneath the strawberries. Bakeries in Brooklyn carried them. Yum! But that whole page looks delightful.

5. CLARIFICATION
I am not advocating the use of boxed cake mix, canned frosting or fake chocolate. If I were to make these they would be from scratch. The only drawback is that you will have to temper your chocolate as it will not set up right if you don't.

It is funny as this seems to be a regional thing (read Texas) when you Google it.
