"Whatever, Martha"
Has anyone else watched this program on the Fine Living Network (FNL)? It's Martha Stewart's daughter, Alexis, and a girlfriend watching segments of Martha's programs and goofing on them.

I think this show could grow on me. As they were watching Martha walk around her garden, Alexis pointed out how damned difficult it was to live in the house, how she had to go out and weed for hours and stuff like that. Who knows if it's exaggeration. It's really funny.

The cooking segments are great. The back and forth comments between Alexis and her friend are fun.

1. the only time I've seen Alexis as an adult...
...was an episode of Martha's show where Alexis was showing her latest bags and purses she had purchased. One of them was $3,000; totally out of touch. Her back and forth with her mother was snarky -- the attitude of a spoiled teen. I didn't like her very much. That was a couple of years ago. I hope she grows to realize her mother's smarts and hard work have affected the American home in positive ways that are not related to materialism.

2. That snarky attitude is exactly what bothered me about this show.
I watched the first episode and decided that I don't need that much snark in my life. :) Also, she made fun of her mother for things like wearing shorts (and Martha looked darn good in them, too!) I'm pretty sure Martha is on board with the show but it just made me uncomfortable.

3. Just what we ladies of a certain age don't need
is another reminder that we are no longer significant where "the market" is concerned. :eyes:

I'll add that to the list of reasons I don't mind the fact that we don't have cable, along with Top Chef. LOL

5. I just can't make up my mind about Top Chef
I've watched it but not nearly with the enthusiasm I'd expect. Now if we're talking Project Runway, I'm there!

7. It's really just me.
I have little patience and enthusiasm for the sensational nature of reality TV programs. They are over the top and the "reality" concept is a tad more than stretched just for the ratings, ya know. :)

4. I saw that the show was also on Sirius
And it was related to Martha's program. So yes, I think she's on it.

I appreciated it when during one segment, the young women were commenting on Martha talking about how when they needed a pergola, they learned to make it themselves and when they needed a brick patio, they learned how to do that themselves, too. Alexis made the comment - now you know why there was a divorce.

Martha's sense of perfection bothers a lot of people and although I like her programs a lot, I can understand why she gets under the skin. I admired how deeply she allows Alexis and her friend to chide honestly.

8. I probably didn't give it enough of a chance.
It's likely they figured out how to strike a balance between gratitude and gentle teasing. At this point, I don't need another show to watch! :)

9. Nah, it truly is pretty snarky
I have my own tolerance for snark and it only stretches so far, too.

Maybe after all the horrible political fighting the show seemed tamer to me. Some day we'll see a show with Bristol and her friends talking about ole mama Palin. Oy! :D

6. I've always enjoyed her programs..
But if she were my mother, I don't know how I would have turned out. So I cut Alexis a huge hunk of slack.

Btw, my favorite show was Martha making marshmallows. In more recent years I've come to appreciate the flavor etc of the homemade. But when I first saw that show I thought the lady had lost her mind. That was before I got my KitchenAid. Now I want to try it myself. :D
