Fall baking has begun!
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 05:44 PM by hippywife
The first of our pumpkins are coming out of the garden. We cut and steamed one today and I made this.

http://homecooking.about.com/od/cakerecipes/r/blc72.htm

I used three cups of the fresh pumpkin puree, didn't use the black pepper because all of mine is coarse ground, doubled the amount of cloves, allspice, and nutmeg, and I subbed in half ww pastry flour. Also, I had some of the cream cheese filling left from last week's danish, (about a cup, not much) and didn't want it to go to waste, so I added it between two layers of the cake batter. There was enough extra batter to make two tiny loaves without the cream cheese filling. I just tasted one and it's really yummy.

I have a loaf of wheat bread and a blackberry cobbler in the oven now. There's some homemade double vanilla ice cream waiting in the freezer for that cobbler! :9

I still have cookies and a batch of yogurt to make after dinner. Made our lunch stuff this morning after a nice big breakfast of eggs, ham steak (from Downing Family Farm), hash browns, toast, and fresh squeezed OJ.

Gonna have a lovely rib-eye from Rowdy Stickhorse tonight. I love Sundays. It's the one day of the week I cook with meat. :9

We need to meet-up one of these days before winter hits, ya know! But I guess that would mean getting off my lazy backside.

4. It's just me and my husband.
All the sweet stuff is mostly for him. He tells everyone that he eats better than anyone he knows. That's why I do it. No better reward than that.

Even though we have a tiny house, there's always room for one more at my table, Kesha.

9. I ran outta time
for cookies and yogurt. Just made two-sticka-butter brownies with raisins and the yogurt will have to wait until tomorrow night.

Soon as the brownies are done, I'm heading for bed. Have a good night!

Don't be pushing this fall thing so fast, I'm not ready for summer to end yet, not looking forward to that long wet couple of season ahead :)

P.S. It looks wonderful!

P.P.S. I have a "killer" recipe for pumpkin cheesecake if you're interested...

16. I don't know what
your weather has been like up there lately, but it's been a really weird season here, let me tell you. It's not unknown at all for Oklahoma to have very hot days well into October but we've been having overnight lows in the 40's and the days have been crisp and gorgeous. I love it but it still is very wrong for this time of year.

I do make a pumpkin cheesecake but I'm always interested in seeing any recipes. Never know when you might come across one that's even better than what you've got.

Been missing you, my friend. Hope you are doing well. :loveya:
