Copper cooking pots are great---
I loved mine until we moved to Florida. After trying to keep the copper shiney, I just decided that I must give them up. The water in Florida turns all copper dark grey. It turns aluminum pots black up to the water line-so much for my lovely Revere ware set.

1. That's the sulfur in the water.
Very sad .... have you truly given them up? You know, the color is an aesthetic issue, but not a functional issue. Copper must be kept clean so as to allow its thermal properties to work their best, but the idea of shining them everyday is nonsense.

Have you tried a little Bar Keeper's Friend? It is a non-abrasive scouring powder that works so easily. Just wet the copper, sprinkle a little on and rub it in with a wet paper towel. No need at all to scrub hard. A few seconds of rubbing (in normal water) shines 'em right up. Then wash 'em with dishwashing liquid and rinse. Voila!

I don't really know how it would work with your sulfurous water, but it might help.

It'd be a shame to get rid of any copper pots!
