Does anyone have an "Advantium" oven?
I am working on my kitchen reno, and I need an above the stove microwave/vent. I was thinking about getting a micro/convection oven combo so I could have a second oven, and I noticed this Advantium thing was an option, too. Says it "cooks with light to deliver food up to 8 times faster". So is it worth the extra $$$?

1. I have one
I use the microwave ability of it only most of the time. I also have used the "oven" capability of it for cooking processed foods, ie bagel bites and other frozen stuff. It browns well and things do come out crispy. I have tried a few recipes(a memorable disasterous quiche from the cookbook that came with it) in it and was disappointed though. It may be my fault. I find it just as easy to use my regular oven which is right under it for most baking so I have neglected playing with it much. For me it ended up being an overpriced microwave but you might have fun playing with it.

2. What I really want is a second oven.
They have microwave/convection oven combos and thought they looked like a good idea. I also noticed the Advantium, and was curious if it worked. I will probably go with the regular oven combo, though. I think that learning to cook with a new type of appliance might be more than I want to deal with. Plus, cooking time is not that big a deal to me. I stay home with two little kids, so I am home most of the time anyway.

4. Frigidaire, Maytage and JennAir make 30" wide ranges
with two ovens.

Available in gas, electric, smooth top or dual fuel. White, black or stainless steel.

Prices range accordingly, from aroun $900 for the basiceMaytag gas or electric w/self cleaning ovens(no convection) to $1599 for the JennAire dual fuel with 1 convection and 1 regular electric oven and gas cook top, both ovens are self cleaning. All are available at Sears. One of these will be my stove. I have a small kitchen and this way I get my double ovens without sacrificing cabinet space.

5. I already have a really nice GE gas range, purchased recently,
so I will stay with that. I didn't even realize I wanted two ovens until recently. I guess I am spending too much time here in C&B.

7. I am ditching a very old electric cook top and wall double oven
for the 30 " gas range, or the dual fuel if I feel rich enough at the time. Solves many problems for me, including freeing up counter space and storage.

My big decision is the venting system. I have a small counter top micro which meets all my needs, and I plan to just have the cabinet installer create a box on the bottom of the upper cabinets for the micro so sit in..OFF the counter top. I need a fairly strong exhaust system because I stir fry a lot, and the new stove placement gives ideal external vent access.

Have fun with your reno, I am looking forward to mine!!!

3. We have a GE Spacemaker microwave/convection oven
We wanted a second oven also. It gets used plenty, especially the fast bake.

The "crispwave" feature is awesome. I can do a 12" frozen pizza in the top oven using microwave and crisp feature in 8 minutes. I love this oven.
