...I am deeply conflicted?

Damn it! Food is the only addiction where going cold turkey will always get you killed. So, I guess I'm here to share and seek good, healthy, low-fat recipes and, as a first offering in that vein, I give you this:

3 lbs. of 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick boneless top round, sliced into strips, about 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long
1 bottle of your favorite low-fat or fat-free Italian dressing
1 package of frozen sweet corn
1 package of frozen broccoli florets
6 cups of cooked brown rice

Marinate the steak strips in the dressing, for 15 minutes up to overnight. Pour into frying pan and cook until nearly done. Add frozen veggies and finish cooking until everything is done. Using a slotted spoon, place the meat and veggies on a bed of the brown rice. Or, if you don't care about the presentation, just drain the meat and veggies and mix them into the rice.

This stuff is good hot or cold, by the way, so it makes an excellent container lunch for taking to work.

3. I tend to see diets as ..... I dunno .....
..... I'd rather follow the 'balanced diet is a good diet' philosophy. Anytime one tends to modify one's diet to cut anything to the extrmeme, one is messing with one's nutritional needs.

Balanced diets, it seems to me, are the healthiest way to go .... unless there's a specific medical need .... like hypertension or diabetes.

4. I've learned that you're right.
My goal is to make healthy choices and eat smaller portions. That means eating slowly so that the feeling of fullness has a chance to set in before I've eaten too much. And it means cutting back on--not necessarily cutting out--high fat and high sugar foods. The only thing I am attempting to eliminate from my diet, completely, is corn syrup.

5. Corn syrup .... and other crap ......
Good stuff to eliminate. Think pre-convenience and pre-fast food and you're there!

Buy fresh and cook fresh and you'll be fine.

7. If you're conflicted, so am I!
I even have my treadmill set up in front of the television set so I can watch Food Network while working out.
