Chef/cooking videos
I am visiting my sister and her husband for the holiday, and it seems he has taken up cooking as a pretty serious hobby, and he is doing great! They do not have cable, and I thought he'd enjoy some DVDs of some of the chef/cooking shows he doesn't get to see. I was thinking Iron Chef America for one. Any other suggestions? His birthday is tomorrow, and I want to send him a belated surprise gift.

Muchas gracias:)

1. Lisa, I was visiting Dad recently, and his lady love
turned me on to Michael Chiarello. He has a show on Food Network that I enjoyed, though I don't know if he has any videos out. Here's the link to his show/bio.

4. If he just wants to watch a show
then sure, send him Iron Chef, but if he wants to learn anything, it won't be from those videos.

Culinary Institute of America has a set of videos for teaching cooking (I don't have them, but would like to, hint, hint), and you can find other series such as by Jaques Pepin (which I have seen are are interesting enough).
