Let the baking begin
It's that time of year and my son asked me today when I was going to start my baking. So - on the agenda for the next few days are: Toffee bars, mocha chip cookies, peanut butter kiss cookies, macadamia nut fudge. I am hoping the weather will cooperate, it was 81 here today and I really don't want to have to turn on the a/c

1. I made Molasses Crinkles today.
The house smelled very Christmas-y.

Toffee bars sound good. Could you share the recipe, please?

2. Sure - I got these from a friend
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 11:28 PM by SW FL Dem
They aren't original, but they are easy and my family loves them.

1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
1/3 cup melted butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 package toffee pieces (Skor - if you can find them - I buy Heath bars and chop them up)

Mix together cake mix, egg and melted butter
pat into the bottom of a greased 13 by 9 pan and pour the condensed milk on top. Sprinkle the toffee pieces over the condensed milk

Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes

When cool, cut into bars.

OOPs- edited to add melted butter - Thanks AZDem

5. Sugar cookies today
My officemate has been begging for treats. America's Test Kitchen had a great-sounding recipe yesterday.

10. Hey at least you can wear pants for Christmas dinner!
I hate taking family pics, we're all either sweating and miserable or in T shirts and shorts. Even with all the windows and doors open, it's too damn hot to even light a candle, let alone run the oven for hours on end. I would absolutely love to have a white Christmas, I would even kill for a day in the low 60s. It just isn't Christmas when it's 80 outside and the A/C is blasting.

12. I'm jealous, I haven't had one of those since the late 60s
I miss the change of seasons. I am tired of always being hot!

Hope you have a safe trip. I wouldn't want to fly through the storms either.

13. My sister lives in Australia.
It is full-on summer there at Christmas. She says the older generation does a full baked meal, but most young people do a seafood bar-b-que, then go to the beach for the rest of the day :)
