How many Southern states have a dem governor?
NC (my state) has a dem governor, and dems control both state houses. I see this as an excellent opportunity to push pro-democracy legislation through before the next prez election. I am particularly interested in same day voter registration legislation (more info http://www.demos-usa.org/page18.cfm).

Also, what local issues are you involved in? Where do you see the biggest opportunity for change and progress in your states and counties? Reason I'm asking, I think we need to re-take this country from the ground up and a forum like this is an excellent place to exchange ideas.

2. I was living in the state of
DENIAL after Bush was elected governor; I continued believing that Ann Richards was still the governor for many years...

I know that doesn't really answer your question, except that I can say that Texas does NOT have a dem governor!

3. Do you see any opportunities on the local level?
Texas is such a big state, there must be allot of diversity there.

5. 4-5
Virginia, Tennessee, Louisiana, and West Virginia have Democratic governors. Oklahoma also has one, but most people wouldn't consider it a Southern state.

8. Oklahoma ...

Culturally and and especially politically, Oklahoma is quite Southern.

I heard an interesting comment on radio talk this morning while driving to work. The talking heads noted that Brad Henry (our governor) has seemed pretty invisible during his administration. That is, no one seems quite sure what he's doing. They then followed this up by suggested that in fact he'd done more during his first years than any governor we've had in the last two decades, attempting, finally, to bring Oklahoma into the 20th century. (We'll work on moving it into the 21st later. :-))

There's a lot of truth to this. A number of progressive issues, while they may seem minor to those outside the state, have been quietly pushed into being and have moved some aspects of how the state runs in a better direction. Henry has been the thrust behind almost all of this. He's not taken a grand stage, most likely because he's been quite effective without doing so and is of course seeking a second term. Being too noisy in this state about these progressive issues would doom him.

10. I consider Oklahoma a southern state..
I just don't consider Bredesen a democrat. I agree the magic number is somewhere between four and five, but how many can we pickup in the next three years?

12. Our Gov is a huge lightweight DINO
Better than the Bush troll Bobby Jindal, you bet. But she isn't exactly a beacon of hope for the progressive south.
