Well it finally happened. "Snowball" G4 died.

I am just sick to my stomach with stress. Financial stress. This month our clothes washer broke, microwave broke and dog got sick requiring three pulled teeth and subsequent eye infection.

Three mornings ago, our old Mac died and all she did was star at me with the grey screen and the bitten out apple saying "take a chunk out of your budget for food and utilities and pet bills". Attempted disc utility via )SX Install disc only to tell me HD needs repair. Three days without internet and finally broke out the visa and filled the last remaining amount with a 27" iMac Quad with Photoshop CS5 extended on it. ugggh. I feel like I am going to throw up. Not kidding. I have a stomach ache.

We found one at a College Store 40 miles away and with the $100 off from retired husband's educational discount, got it because they will attempt to get stuff off of our old Mac as well as load up CS5 for us. They will also service it if need be in the future.

Husband has to go to his bank tomorrow to attempt to consolidate our debts and drop sick dog off at Vet and dump the old computer off in hopes of any info being able to be taken off of it.

I am using our broken-screen PowerBook G4 right now and because is so old, cannot even access my bank, most sites to pay bills, twitter, etc.... because our Adobe Flash is too old. Cannot even find anywhere to download one without reading 100 pages of crap. It whirrs and squeeks as I surf for info. What a pain in the ass.I am so sick of computers right now and never thought I would say that. This is the last new one I am ever buying ever. If I need something in the future, hopefully if I am not homeless will just get an iphone or something.

Sorry. I needed to rant. Now I need to go get some antacids.

If only you had been far more rightist and republican, none of this would ever have happened. You would not be part of the 100,000,000 americans suffering from a bad economy, while billionaire bankers are making more than $1,000,000,000 just this year, as they rape the system, act as vampires on normal people and screw the legal system to their profit and benefit.

As for your computer woes, it serves you right that you picked a good, solid machine that is not as easily hacked as the corporate beast - Windoze. Ergo, it is your fault . . . . that your corporate masters cannot hack you as easily.

With all sincerity, I really feel for you. Most of the time, I deal with pain and suffering of others. (being a lawyer) Your story struck a chord with me. I wish you both the best. And please, DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!

2. Thanks. I needed a reality check. The machine is beautiful and hopefully

will have it for years.
Husband rolled over and sold some retirement assets so we were surprised that he actually made money to cover the machine and we will be paying off all of our CCs. My stress level is slightly smaller now.
I do not complain easily. It takes a lot. Buying an old computer is crap shoot sometimes. Although better than nothing. I do a very small business off and on and I need the Mac and the Photoshop to help me.
I love Macs. I could never go PC.

3. Did you try the target mode from you laptop? That's how

I saved data from my wife's eMac hours before it died.

In target mode I was able to bring it back to life a few days before. When it started doing the gray screen I did Target mode to transfer her HD contents to my Mini. Later that night, it ascended into computer heaven. It was eleven years old, and ran almost 24/7 for those years.
