My Apple-hating friend is all excited about the Motorola XOOM
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 04:03 PM by emulatorloo
He read about it winning best new product CES and is ready to order one. He asked if I knew what the price was. He knew that clearly it would be cheaper than an iPad

He also knows it will be the definitive iPad killer.

He asked if I had an iPad, I said no not yet.

He assured me that there are "plenty of used iPads for sale". (I am still stuck on that one, LOL)

I started googling around for XOOM CES stories. Apparently they were showing a non-function prototype, that was showing a demo video of how the XOOM will function?

I guess this is standard operating procedure at CES, but I guess I did not know that. Very interesting.

My guess is that iPad 2 will be out before this thing.

1. all they would have to do is allow Flash on the iPad and I'd get one - but otherwise, no point

not worth browsing only part of the internet when other tablets will give you all of it - and yes, a big Mac fan here, but that is where Jobs lost my interest in getting his newer products. I'm holding out for this year's crop and will probably get an Android phone & pad if CES is any indication, there will be a real crop to choose from.

I think all things considered, innovation was never served by limiting choices

2. I got one, and since I use it for mostly.. PDF readyng and research
also some writing.

No, it is not a full puter, not by any stretch, but it works well for what I use it. And the few times (it is too often) that I have been laid on my back... it works extremely well.

4. Question about flash
How do you see hover and pop up menu's working when there is no mouse?

(It should also be noted the Xoom is now out, they promised it would have Adobe Flash installed and working, its not even on the Xoom.)

3. Ok now we know - XOOM costs $800.00. Ipad 2 ships March 11, with 5 models under $800.00
IPad 2 looks excellent. Faster, cameras for FaceTime, etc etc. Same price point. 499.00 for 16gb with WiFi. 599.00 for 32gb wifi, etc.

http://www.apple.com/ipad/

Last years models reduced by $100.00
