Anyone else have Superdrive/MacBook issues?
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 03:36 PM by supernova
I haven't used mine a lot, rarely actually.

However, spring a year ago I had a problem and got a CD stuck in the drive and had to take it to the Genius Bar to get them to dislodge it. They assured me that it worked fine.

I proceeded to load up most of my audio CDs to iTunes and my iPod. Happy me. :D

So, now it's that time of year and I want to load up my holiday/xmas music to my iPod.

I'm having the same problem with the Superdrive not recognizing the audio CD. I can load it, but it spins around a couple of times, and eventually after a couple if tries, the drive disgorges the CD. iTunes doesn't see it.

I have hardly used the drive at all. It is really frustrating me. :-(

edit: I have read the apple forums and other people have posted about this problem, but to my knowledge, no one has posted a satisfactory answer or fix.

1. What have you changed since last year? Are you working from the same batch of CDs
or do you buy a new stack of blanks? If yes to the latter, is it EXACTLY the same as the ones you used last year or did you buy a different kind/brand? If yes to the latter, are you regularly downloading OS X updates or is it possible you're lacking a driver you need? Is it possible this particular disk is defective? Is it a rewritable disk that you've rewritten many times? Have you tried just reburning with a new disk? Have you tried a different brand?

2. They are regular commercial music CDs

I purchased anywhere from 2000-2006 or so. They are however, thicker than DVDs, so that might be an issue.

3. I had a problem with my drive ejecting my cd's
I checked some mac forums and someone mentioned using cleaning disks (because there could be something on the lens) another suggestion was using a soft cloth (I used my eyeglass cleaning cloth) around a credit card and swiping it across the left side and about an inch inside the drive slot. I tried this and it didn't work out very well for me. So, instead of that method, I wrapped the cloth around a nail file and gently entered the drive and pulled it back out, inserted a cd and it worked.

Perhaps your drive just needs a little cleaning.

Let me know if this helped.
