Safari 4: I'm addicted to the panorama view!
Ye Gods of the Internet!

An even more brainless way to surf!

It's like looking at a giant wall of TVs.

1. It's a beta release -- so what's still screwy? I'm downloading it now --
and I know installing it will overwrite my 3.2.1. Since I mostly use Opera, screwing up my Safari some won't be a bit deal -- but every now and then I turn to Safari for something, and it would be nice to know what I'm going to scream about

How ya doin? :)

2. I can't find any bugs--
in S4.

I had a stinker of a day. Somebody stole my credit card from my car while I was in the gym. :grr: Luckily I caught on after only a couple of hours.

Still, it's a creepy feeling. :-(

I'll live I suppose. ;-)

3. That sort of theft leaves one feeling violated. About 25 years ago, I left a checkbook in my
glovebox at a Boston metro station; somebody broke into the car and ripped a couple of checks from the checkbook; fortunately, I was in the process of moving and was about to close the bank account anyway; but it felt really crappy, and I was also PO'd at myself for not locking the glovebox, which I could easily have done

I suppose you cancelled the card and are getting it replaced, and the major hassle there is the time. About a decade ago, I made an online purchase, then went to a local store and started to buy something, and my credit card was declined as "cancelled"; when I finally talked to the credit card company, the explanation was that the online folk hadn't actually submitted my credit card purchase until right before before I attempted to make the store purchase, so one request from one thousand miles away was being processed when the second request was submitted. The card company wouldn't undo the cancellation but promised I'd have a new card in a day or two, but it actually took about ten days to arrive, which was a nuisance because my bank account limited how many free withdrawals I could make a month, so I had to plan carefully

Sorry you had a bad day

7. It seems to have fixed the problems I was having with the old Safari.
It was hanging up on every page and since I have installed the beta 4 it runs perfectly. I put on firefox so I could browse now I'm back to using Safari exclusively. YEAH!!

4. Drag & drop tab reordering seems to be lost from the Beta version

5. Nope its still there - works slightly diffrently
http://www.apple.com/safari/whats-new.html#tabs

Safari also makes it easy to create and manage tabs. To create a new tab, just click the + button in the upper-right corner of the Safari window. Want to rearrange tabs? Simply drag a tab by its handle and drop it in a new location in the tab bar. You can also use the handle to drop a tab into another Safari window. Or quickly create a new window by dragging the tab out to the desktop. You can create a bookmark from a group of tabs. Or even tell Safari to open a set of tabs every time you open a new Safari window.

8. Only thing I miss is a reload/stop loading button.
Those functions can still be accomplished with key combos, but I prefer the button action.

9. The reload button is now to the right of the url window.
Actually in the window itself. My son found it when I freaked out.

10. You can also reload by right-clicking the mouse on the page
I didn't notice the reload button at the bottom. Thanks.

12. Don't like the tabs at the top edge for some reason...
other than that, so far, so good.

15. You can change that, it seems:
see http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/41555/140/1/2/

open terminal
type defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4TabBarIsOnTop -bool NO
hit enter

I quit safari for before doing the above and relaunched afterwards: it worked for me

14. I think iCab current has the best version of something like Panaroma: with a mouse-click
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 12:03 PM by struggle4progress
I can see all my open tabs spread across my screen, looking like several dozen widgets

The Safari Top Sites is rather like Opera's Quick Dial: useful but perhaps not essential. And the Safari visual history, that enables one to riffle through a large number of past pages, seems like it might be a good idea -- but if you have huge browsing histories like me, with bunches of pages temporarily visited and abandoned, it can be rather tiresome to search through it
