My Christmas present is not compatible with mac
:(

I still love my mac tho! :)

My hubby is sooo sad and I feel so bad for him. I wish I could make it work but it is impossible.

It was a digital recorder with dictation capabilities, an excellent gift for school.

Whata bummer... it was such wonderful gift and now he must return it.

3. Sony

Maybe I didn't tried enough, I might connect it to the computer. The box didn't stated directly that it was not compatible but when you read the users manual says that it do not support the OS not in the list and of course Mac OS was there.

6. What kind of Mac do you own?.?.?
If it is a intel based machine you could always use the windows side...

Check out these links.....

Dragon NaturallySpeaking, developed by Nuance software:

MacSpeech Dictate provides a whole new way to interact with your Mac. Instead of typing, use your voice to input text; rather than clicking your mouse, just speak commands. With MacSpeech Dictate, it's easy.

7. Thanks for the links
I saw that dictation software at the apple store last month and maybe that is why my hubby got the idea of giving me a digital recorder as a present. He was told the recorder was compatible but my guess is that someone was desperate to make a sell. I am going to look at this instead and I am actually on my way to apple.

I have heard about mac speech recognition but sounded a bit complicated. I am now very curious. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

I own an intel based Macbook.

2. Not compatible in what way?
I'm guessing that it has a USB interface and comes with Windows-only software for transferring and manipulating the data. At the risk of stating the obvious, don't assume that you have to use the supplied software. Third parties often develop free Mac alternative apps for supposedly Windows-only devices, so googling for such may give you a pleasant surprise. And even if there's no software available, USB devices which handle data often present themselves as disk drives when connected to the Mac via USB, so you may simply be able to drag and drop the audio files.

4. I have an old Olympus...
Edited on Sat Dec-27-08 12:18 PM by Lost-in-FL
and all I have to do is drag and drop the audio files and listen to the wav file in quicktime. With the new recorder I get an unreadable file (.msv file so I have to install their Sony software to convert to mp3 and this CD is not readable either). I am going to do some research, I should not give up so easy. Thanks.

9. I'd exchange it.

Why does Sony seem to think that the world needs another format?

Mp3 or .wav files are the universal standard.

10. That is what we are doing.
I am still happy with my Olympus (my hubby wanted to get me a new one). We might be getting this instead http://www.macspeech.com/ but still undecided.

11. If you have an iPod...
This sounds like it would be handy.
Don't know about it's ability to transfer what's recorded to your computer though.

Same idea,...

I considered getting the ProTrack, but opted for a Sony PCM D-50 to record live gigs.

12. Nice!
Thanks.

I have read of something similar but misplaced the link (someone here in DU directed me to the link but I never bookmark it, duh!). That would put my older generation iPod to great use. Thanks!

13. You could run windows in boot camp or using a virtual machine
such as VMware. Then you could use the recorder
