Questions about "Macsafe" applications to use to see live Oylmpics feeds

I have an 10.4 OSX in my MacBook (so my husband tells me) It seems like all the applications for viewing live or recent feeds involve downloading some scary Microsoft vid players, ie. Silverlight. Husband says that is NOT a good idea. Anyway to see these feeds without using Microsoft interfaces?

1. Since I have an older (non-Intel) Mac, NBC has me locked out

from viewing ANY of their streams, but I've been watching the *live* coverage at http://www.aelling.lir.dk/public/ where they have been showing team handball, flyweight boxing, sailing, and other events that NBC (broadcast) doesn't even bother to mention.

Since I don't have cable, I find that NBC's coverage really sucks. There is a dedicated YouTube channel for the Olympics, but I haven't found a proxy that shows that I'm in one of the countries that is allowed to watch those. I understand that the CBC has it's usual excellent coverage, but, once again, the lack of a decent Canadian proxy keep me from being able to see their video streams, since NBC has an 'exclusive' within the US for any moving images.

It's *really* time for an end to these 'exclusive coverage' contracts, especially if the contract holder is not covering the events. Perhaps a better way would be to open it to all, with the high bidders getting a larger share of the 'large audience' events, but make it a requirement to cover ALL the events and let the viewers decide what they want to watch. A world record was set today in trap doubles, by an American, but I haven't seen any mention of it on NBC, and I know that they will provide zero coverage of any of the shooting sports, or archery, and they only mentioned fencing when the USA women's team did a medal sweep in the saber event. Their coverage consisted mainly of showing the *single point* that on the medal. What a load of garbage.

Having said that, the required version of Microsoft's Silverlight works only on Intel Macs, and it has been reported that it does send an inordinate amount of information back to the 'mothership'. Many people have reported that Silverlight is the ONLY plug-in that will consistently crash their Safari browser.
