Printer Problems
So, this AM I'm getting ready to print some stuff - I hit the print button without thinking and realized that I hadn't selected a print range for the document so instead of letting it print 7 pages time 10, I shut the printer off before it started printing. When I tried to start printing the job again, there was no response from the printer.
Mrs GoS wasn't able to print from her iBook after I turned off the printer.
I've got a PowerBook G4 and Mrs GoS has an iBook - we're both running Tiger 10.4.7.

The printer is a Brother 1407NL connected to an Airport - I was getting Bonjour printers showing up in the print dialog but now I'm not. I've deleted the printer from my printer list and then added it again. It still doesn't print.

Brother customer service is close until Monday AM.

Anyone have any ideas?

1. Don't have your printer
But when I run into a similar problem with my Canon, I unplug it from the power source AND the computer and give it a few minutes to think about the error of its ways. Then shut down computer and then plug everything back in and restart before trying a print job.

Good luck.

2. I have a feeling that since the printer shut down before finishing the job

it registered a communication error.

Here's what I would do.

First, go the the apple menu and open 'system preferences' then 'print and fax', then under the 'printing' tab open 'print que'. This should tell you if the job was stopped, or there was a communication error. From there you can cancell the print job and it should clear the problem (I think).

I'd do this with both computers, though the jobs on one shouldn't influence the other, but it's another step to eliminate in troubleshooting.

That's the extent of my printer troubleshooting abilities.

Hope it helps.

3. It was indeed a 'Communication error'
I had a "Dooooh" moment.

Turns out that the Ethernet cable had fallen out of the router.

I discovered this after calling Brother Tech support. "Change the cable from the router to your AirPort, it might be damaged". "Oh, ok" "Was it?" "Yes(LIE, LIE, LIE!!!!! - It was disconnected)."
"Is it printing now?"
"Yes, thanks for your help."

I feel like such an idiot.
