I'm going veggie
after seeing that PETA movie about the Kosher slaughterhouse. Eating meat has been bothering me for a while anyway, but that just changed my mind.

I have a beautiful sheepskin coat with the fur still attached to the leather, a couple very nice leather jackets, belts, boots and shoes, etc etc etc.

I'm going to keep using this stuff and wearing it until it's totally worn out. The animals died already, I've had it for years, and don't really see the point of just throwing it away. Hypocritical? I don't think so.

I just don't want the sacrafice these animals made to just be thrown away just because I've changed my mind.

1. I didn't toss all my leather
I still have one pair of shoes and a journal. But I did give away my leather jacket, got rid of my wallets, purses, belts, and most of my shoes. I purged. Sent everything to goodwill or gave to friends.

2. not hypocritical
those are things you got at a different time in your life. Maybe you will use them until they're worn out, as you are currently thinking, maybe in a few or several years, you'll have another consciousness shift and decide that even though they are still usable, you no longer want them. It's your life, you're the only one who can live it, so don't give too much weight to what anyone else tells you.

I have never bought a leather jacket in my life, but after he died, I inherited one from my father. I like it because it was his, and so for that, I overlook that it is leather. I don't have any inner turmoil about wearing it.

5. I still have my leather.
I was not about to throw perfectly good clothes away. But I did give away two furs.

6. Awesome! And no, not hypocritical.
Tossing that stuff would be wasteful. I'm still using my leather weightlifting gloves, and will until they fall apart. I believe that my combat boots have leather on them, as well. Had 'em for a decade.

You might consider dropping PETA a little note telling them of your decision. People crap on them all the time, and anyone up there hearing your diet alteration would be very pleased.

Welcome to the "other side"!! ;)
I don't think it's hypocritical either. I wear a wool peacoat in the winter that I have had from a different time also. The point is, you know where it came from and aren't wearing it for reasons of vanity.
So glad you are going veggie! :bounce: :toast:

8. I have been a vegetarian for most of my life but
I have some leather stuff and I wear/use it. As you said the animal already died, the animal was killed for it's flesh not for the leather and to throw it out would be in a way disrespectful to the animal. I couldn't wear fur mink, chinchilla, fox, etc. cause all of those were killed for the skin and wearing it would make me feel guilty.

9. Good for you!
Congrats on your decision. I feel the same about the leather stuff. It would be wasteful to throw it away. I have a pair of shoes I have had forever-they won't even look worn out. I just buy non-leather now, though.

10. I didn't throw away my non-vegan shoes or clothes
I donated some things (wool sweaters, a leather jacket) but I wore my leather shoes until they wore out.
