My big chance to convert my family- red beans and rice
I have been thinking about going veg for some time now because I don't want to cause animals to suffer and die anymore. I only want to keep eating free-range eggs and organic milk that are gathered humanely.

My family has been very resitant to my slow changes, like trying out different tofu recipes, but suddenly they are interested in red beans and rice. I'm not sure why. I brought the ingredients (a box of uncle ben's brown rice and a bag of goya red beans) home yesterday and my husband and son said they both wanted to try it. Then hubby said maybe he could avoid meat if he could still have eggs and cheese.

So here's the deal. I've never made red beans and rice before. The beans are soaking now. I'm only going to get one shot at this. The recipe on the bag calls for ham, obviously problematic in this situation. What are the tastiest ways you know to make red beans and rice?

4. I practically live off red beans and rice.
I love it. And it's incredibly easy to make.

Basically, just find out what they like. I like spicy food and cumin, so I put that on my beans. My dad used to put sausage and cheese on his (obviously the sausage is a problem), which is a completely different flavor.

It's a good recipe to play around with, and spices are your friend.
